Hello iTech Coaches and Course Coordinators,

Welcome to the 2007/2008 year of iTeach iLearn!

We are excited to support you in preparing your school for teaching and learning success in a one-to-one environment. By now your teachers should have devices and arrangements should be made to provide OOTB training (documented in ProTraxx) for any new teachers who have received devices from teachers who are no longer working in your school. We expect to begin deployment to the remainder of your students this fall.

Once schools are operating in a true one-to-one environment the role of the iTech Coach shifts and becomes one with more push in coaching support enabling teachers to effectively use what they’ve learned to enhance teaching and learning. iTech coaches will also want to assess teacher needs and recommend professional development and provide support to those who would benefit from the guidance and expertise of the school iTech coach.

We plan to support you in doing this. Please read this email carefully as it has important information that is critical to helping you receive the support necessary to ensure success.

To prepare for the year ahead iTiL schools are required to send their Course Coordinator and iTech Coach to the Professional Development Planning class at our LIC training site 45-18 Court Square 2nd Floor, Long Island City (Training Site Directions) on Friday, October 12th or Saturday, October 6th from 9:00 – 3:00. Schools that do not have a representative in full attendance who can complete accurate reporting, will put their schools SY 07/08 laptop deployment in jeopardy.

During the class we’ll review the 2007/2008 professional development offerings, provide you with an opportunity to plan, identify and target appropriate teachers who should attend iTeach/iLearn/iCreate classes, review course coordinator protocols, finalize your SY 06/07 report and solidify your 07/08 plans.

This year we are planning to be able to continue to offer iTeach, iLearn (Grade 6/8), iCreate and Get Going with…classes to iTeach/iLearn schools. Pending budget approval classes will be offered at various times throughout the year. You can visit Class Schedule 2007 - 2008 for a listing of the classes we are planning to offer. This schedule is tentative and won’t be confirmed until our meeting with you, however, we encourage you to begin planning for and sharing this information with your teachers now. Once the schedule is finalized (which will happen by our October meeting) participants will be able to register for classes at ProTraxx (http://pd.nycoit.org). At the October meeting you will receive information about compensation for participants who attend professional development. No compensation will be allocated for school-based PD without prior written approval from our office.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday, October 12th or Saturday, October 6th from 9:00 – 3:00. Please sign up for this class through the ProTraxx online registration system (http://pd.nycoit.org). After you login you can do an "Advanced Search" and enter “T3 Professional Development Planning” under “Name of Activity Class.”

Prior to the class, please visit http://oit.wikispaces.com/iTeach-iLearn+Roles and update information about your school's iTeam members. Please bring your fully charged iTiL laptop loaded with
• Digital versions of your PD Plan and budget
• Your school’s organizational chart
• A list of your iTeam members
• Your school’s ProTraxx report for Summer 2007
• Please ensure everything is up to date on ProTraxx

We appreciate all your hard work thus far and look forward to seeing you to continue this exciting educational journey.

Sincerely,

Lisa Nielsen, PD Manager - OIT
Christine Mazza, Instructional Technology Specialist

Note: If you are no longer the Course Coordinator or iTech coach at your school please let us know and update your school's information at iTeach-iLearn Roles.
